Serving both biopharmaceutical and agro-biotech ventures, the Bio-Incubator isn't just a facility—it's a cornerstone for discovery and innovation. It’s also the new home of VIB’s headquarters.
Inspiring architecture meets environmental awareness
Envisioned by Modulo Architects and Stéphane Beel Architects, with the support of Istema and Establis engineering firms, the Bio-Incubator stands as a symbol of architectural innovation. Imagine a vertical screen split into two harmonious halves: one, a dynamic and interactive face that borders on the E40; the other, a creative side overlooking the new science campus. This dichotomy not only has an aesthetic purpose but also serves as an acoustic barrier, shielding the campus from the bustling highway.

Strategically located for maximum impact
Situated in the Tech Lane Ghent Science Park, Campus Eiland, the VIB Bio-Incubator enjoys a strategic position. It's a stone's throw from vital highways E40 and E17, seamlessly connected to the R4. Just a few kilometers from the historic heart of Ghent, it sits at the epicenter of the Ghent biotech ecosystem, near the renowned VIB & UGent knowledge centers.
Facilities
The VIB Bio-Incubator rents out adapted state-of-the-art infrastructure in combination with several related services such as persons and goods reception, environmental management, ICT-network support, waste management, security, building management, and maintenance.
The VIB Bio-Incubator offers 22 individual modules of 272 m² each. In total, this adds up to approximately 6,000 m² of net operational space. The modules on the same floor can be connected to allow starters to grow within the incubator. Comfortable stairways and elevators connect the different floors. In addition to equipped lab areas, each module includes offices, support space, and storage space.
To promote interaction between the companies on each floor, there are informal meeting corners and flexible workplaces.
On the ground floor, you can find a reception desk, cafeteria, multi-functional meeting rooms, waste and storage space, in-house bicycle storage with all necessary sanitary accommodations to promote sustainable commuting, and an outdoor terrace.
